Report: European club believe they can land Spurs target on cut-price £11m deal

Benfica believe they can sign Freiburg centre-back, Robin Koch, for a cut-price deal this summer, according to reports from Portugal.

Portuguese news outlet Record (via Sport Witness) reported back in January that Spurs were following Koch’s progress closely.

Area Napoli reported earlier this week that the Lilywhites were set to go head to head with Napoli for the German defender in the summer. The report asserted that Freiburg were demanding around €20 million (£17.9m) for the 23-year-old’s signature.

However, Portuguese publication O Jogo now reports that Benfica are confident of signing the defender for just £11 million, despite the Liga NOS Champions apparently having a £13.7 million rejected for Koch in January.

It is alleged that the drop in the defender’s value is due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis and the postponement of Euro 2020, a tournament that Koch was supposed to feature in.

Spurs Web Opinion:

Koch is a top talent whose value is likely to increase substantially over the next few seasons. While he will probably be an upgrade over the ageing Vertonghen, he is not quite a ready-made product just yet. I believe we need to bring in a top experienced central defender who can slot straight into the backline and help fix our defensive problems.
