Report: European club ready to challenge Newcastle for Pochettino

Marseille are reportedly eyeing Mauricio Pochettino as a possible option to replace another former Spurs boss, Andre Villas-Boas.

Although Villas-Boas has outperformed expectations in his first season at the club, Tuttomercatoweb reveals that his future is in doubt following the exit of sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.

Villas-Boas is said to have previously indicated that his future remains tied with that of Zubizarreta and could potentially be looking to follow the Spaniard out of the door.

It is suggested that Pochettino is one of the possible options that Marseille have in mind as a replacement for the Portuguese coach if he is to leave the Stade Vélodrome.

Previous reports have indicated that the Argentine could have been set for a return to England as Newcastle’s next manager, with Magpies prospective new owners said to be keen on appointing the former Spurs boss (Le10Sport).

However, it now looks like Marseille are ready to compete with Newcastle for the 48-year-old, who has been out of work since leaving Tottenham in November.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think there is any chance that Pochettino will take the Marseille job. He will probably be looking to stay in the Premier League unless a European giant makes an approach for him in the next few months, which looks fairly unlikely as things stand.
