Report: European giant begins talks to sign Spurs defender

Italian transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that AC Milan have stepped up their efforts to sign Serge Aurier this summer.

Aurier recently suffered a terrible personal tragedy with the passing of his brother (Sud Ouest) and was hailed by some Spurs fans for the courage he showed to make himself available for selection, despite the tragic loss.

However, the right-back’s performances have continued to be inconsistent, despite him being a regular fixture in the side since Jose Mourinho arrived at Spurs.

Aurier has previously admitted that he asked to leave Tottenham last summer amidst interest from Milan (Bal des Productions via Goal).

It was reported a just over two months ago that the defender is now much happier in North London and that he could be handed a contract extension by the club (Le10Sport).

However, Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that Milan have begun talks with Spurs to sign the former PSG player.

The Ivory Coast international is said to be the Serie A giant’s main right-back target this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect that the majority of the Spurs fan base would not be displeased if we were to sell Aurier but with Kyle Walker-Peters also potentially leaving, that would mean that we need to buy two right-backs this summer.

I would be surprised if we sold Aurier this summer, on the back of the faith that Jose has shown in him this season. While I expect us to sign an upgrade on the 27-year-old this summer, I think Aurier will end up staying as a backup.
