Report: European giant could make a move for 24-year-old Spurs star

CalcioMercato have claimed that AC Milan could make a move for Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn when the transfer window reopens in the summer.

Bergwijn was heavily linked with a move to Ajax during the January transfer window, with the Eredivisie giants reportedly being locked in negotiations with Spurs for the winger until the final week of the transfer window (De Telegraaf’s football podcast via SoccerNews).

The Dutchman ended up staying put at Tottenham but has continued to find opportunities hard to come by under Conte.

Italian journalist Carlo Laudisa said on Carlo Pellegatti’s YouTube Channel last month that Milan could enter the race for the Tottenham man in the summer.

This has now been backed up by CalcioMercato, who claim that the Serie A club could be on the lookout for a wide player in the summer.

It is explained that Stefano Pioli could shift to a 4-3-3 next season if Brahim Diaz continues to struggle and the change of formation would entail adding a winger to the squad.

Bergwijn is said to be one of the options on the Rossoneri’s radar, with the club thought to value the Tottenham man at around €25m (£20.6m).

It is explained that Milan are also looking at Club Brugge’s Noa Lang and Sassuolo’s Domenico Berardi as alternatives to Bergwijn.

Spurs Web Opinion

It seems pretty clear that Bergwijn is one of the players likely to be on their way out in the summer as part of Conte’s rebuild. The Dutchman was just kept on as a squad player and I suspect Spurs might have sold him to Ajax had the Eredivisie club increased their offer by a few million in January.
