Report: European giant set to hand Spurs-linked right-back a new deal after U-turn

Mundo Deportivo claim that rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Nelson Semedo could be set to sign a new contract with Barcelona.

Tottenham have reportedly been long-term admirers of the right-back and reports indicated that he was on the radar of the North London outfit this summer (Don Balon).

The Portuguese international was also rumoured to be a target for Manchester City (Sport).

It was reported earlier last month that Semedo was one of a number first-team stars Barcelona were looking to move on this summer in an effort to reduce their wage bill and raise transfer funds (Marca).

However, Mundo Deportivo claim that Barcelona have changed their mind and are ready to offer the 26-year-old a new four-year deal.

It is said that Semedo will receive a pay rise if he puts pen to paper on the deal and negotiations between the Catalan giants and the defender’s representatives are at an advanced stage.

The report, however, does not rule out the possibility of Semedo leaving as it is suggested that Barca could still decide to cash in on him if they get an offer that is too good to turn down.

I am not convinced that Semedo would be much of an upgrade on Aurier as the 26-year-old can also be defensively suspect. However, if there is truth to reports that Aurier could leave this summer, then perhaps we could be in the market for two right-backs, with Walker-Peters also looking like he is on his way out of the club.
