Report: European giants could ruin chance of Pochettino returning to Spurs

The Athletic have suggested that Real Madrid could dent Tottenham’s chances of reappointing Mauricio Pochettino by targetting the Argentine as a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti.

The report explains that Daniel Levy wants to win back Spurs fans and might see reappointing Pochettino as the single biggest lever he can pull to achieve that.

It is alleged that the prospect of returning to Spurs appeals to the 51-year-old just as it did during the summer of 2021.

It is revealed that despite being just six months into his stint at Paris Saint-Germain at the time, Pochettino was not enjoying his time in Paris and that the idea of returning to Tottenham ‘tugged on his heartstrings’.

However, the move was not possible at the time as PSG were determined not to let their head coach leave and reacted by tying him down to a new contract.

While that would not be a hindrance this summer, it is suggested that Real Madrid could scupper Tottenham’s hopes by making an offer to Pochettino.

The report explains that Florentino Perez has tried twice in the past to appoint the former Spurs manager and could make another attempt for him if Ancelotti is let go at the end of the season.

After his experiences at PSG, perhaps Pochettino will be wary of taking on a similar big job, where he would not have the power expects and instead return home to Spurs – a club where he knows he is already loved.

This might be wishful thinking on my part but I have the feeling that the Argentine is waiting for Tottenham to come calling.
