Report: Everton and Arsenal both interested in right-back linked with Spurs

Spanish publication Sport have revealed that rumoured Tottenham target Emerson Royal is on the radars of several clubs across Europe, including Premier League duo Arsenal and Everton.

Emerson has managed to build on his impressive first season in Spanish football, with his reputation blossoming even further on the back of his performances for Real Betis this campaign.

The right-back is co-owned by Betis and Barcelona, with the Catalan club having the option to buy him this summer for €6m (£5.1m).

Previous reports from Spain have claimed that the Brazilian is on Tottenham’s radar and that Barca are ready to cash in on him.

Sport now reveal that the full-back will report for pre-season training with Barcelona and is set to be part of the La Liga giants’ squad for the new season as things stand.

However, it is explained that Emerson has no intention to play second fiddle to Sergino Dest and would prefer to join a Premier League club.

Apart from Arsenal and Everton, Villarreal and AC Milan are also credited with an interest in the 22-year-old.

Spurs Web Opinion

I was initially happy for us to move on both Aurier and Doherty and sign one right-back this summer, using Japhet Tanganga as the main cover next season. However, after Tanganga’s performance against Villa, I am starting to rethink if that would make sense.

While it is harsh to be too critical of the youngster for one bad performance, particularly given how little he has played this season, Tanganga showed his lack of experience on Wednesday. Time and again, his positioning was poor and Villa were able to play Anwar El Ghazi in with a simple through ball behind him.
