Report: Everton and West Ham enter race for relegated star linked with Spurs

According to The Telegraph, West Ham United and Everton have both entered the race for Burnley winger Maxwel Cornet, who is also reported to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Cornet enjoyed an impressive first season in English football since arriving at Turf Moor from Lyon last summer, scoring nine goals in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

The 26-year-old primarily operated from the left but has also displayed his versatility, featuring upfront and at left-back for the Clarets.

The Daily Mirror reported a few days ago that Antonio Conte had identified the Ivory Coast international as a player who could bolster his attacking options this summer.

The Telegraph have now revealed that Everton and West Ham are also eyeing a move for Cornet following Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League.

It is explained that the Clarets’ relegation from the top-flight triggers a clause that would allow the winger to leave for £17.5m this summer.

I suspect Cornet is being eyed as a replacement for Steven Bergwijn rather than as an option for the left wing-back role. The challenge for Spurs would be in convincing the 25-year-old that he will get a decent amount of game time at the club next season.
