Report: Everton are keeping tabs on ‘out-of-favour’ Tottenham star

Everton are keeping tabs on Harry Winks’ situation at Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the January transfer window, The Sunday People have revealed.

Winks has started just once under Antonio Conte, with the 25-year-old filling in for the suspended Oliver Skipp in Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Leeds United last month.

Conte praised the character Winks showed in the second half of that game after a sub-par first-half performance.

However, the Spurs academy graduate faces a big fight to get into Spurs’ starting eleven, with the new Tottenham boss seeming to have settled on a partnership of Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg as his first-choice pairing.

Fabrizio Romano revealed two weeks ago that Winks is loving life under Conte (Here We Go Podcast – starting at 14:19) but that has not stopped the speculation over the midfielder’s future as he is also alleged to be on Newcastle’s radar.

The Sunday People have now reported that Everton are also eyeing Winks, with the midfielder said to have several admirers at Goodison Park.

The report claims that the England international is still hopeful of getting more regular action at Spurs under Conte but if the opportunity arises for a move next month, it is thought the player would consider it.

In addition, it is asserted that Daniel Levy would also consider selling Winks next month if a concrete offer arrives for the midfielder.

Whether or not Conte trusts Winks as a long-term option, I suspect that the midfielder is likely to stay at the club at least until the end of the season.

We are short of central midfielders at the moment, with the Italian likely viewing Ndombele, Dele and Lo Celso as options to play in the front three rather than in the middle of the park.

That is why I do not think Spurs will entertain offers for Winks in January even if we sign another central midfielder.
