Report: Everton hit stumbling block in efforts to sign alleged Spurs target

The Daily Mirror have revealed that Everton have hit a stumbling block in their pursuit of Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus, who is also rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

GhanaWeb were the first to report a couple of weeks ago Spurs held an interest in Kudus. The report claimed that Conte’s men are ‘confident’ they can strike a deal for the 22-year-old next summer if they fail to sign him during this transfer window.

This was subsequently followed by a report from Ghanasoccernet, who claimed that Spurs scouts were in attendance during Ajax’s match against Fortuna Sittard on Saturday to watch Kudus in action.

It then seemed like Tottenham were set to lose out to Everton in the race for the midfielder’s signature, with Fabrizio Romano stating last week that the Toffees were close to striking a deal with Ajax regarding the youngster.

However, if The Mirror’s latest update is to be believed, Ajax have now changed their stance on Kudus. The report explains that Frank Lampard’s men thought they had a deal for the Ghanaian in place only for the Eredivisie giants to go back on their word.

It is asserted that Ajax are unwilling to lose Kudus and Manchester United target Antony in the same transfer window.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Tottenham’s interest in Kudus was ever as concrete as Everton’s as none of the British publications picked up the story. Besides, we are well stacked in central midfield and signing another number six, who is not homegrown, would not have made any sense.
