Report: Everton hoping to beat Spurs to £35m-rated midfielder

Everton are said to be upping their interest to potentially beating Tottenham to the signing of Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

According to the Daily Mail, the Toffees are believed to be hoping to pip Spurs to the land the former Saints captain this summer.

However, the south coast club are believed to be holding out for around £35million for their former skipper who only has one year left on his deal with Ralph Hassenhuttl’s side.

Tottenham are said to be open to offering players-plus-cash in a potential deal for the midfielder with Spurs defender, Kyle Walker-Peters currently out on loan at the Saints.

The midfielder has said he is looking to play his football at a higher level and Spurs have been heavily linked with the 24-year-old since the end of January (Sky Sports).

Hojbjerg was stripped of the Southampton armband following his announcement of hoping to play at a “higher level” (Mirror).

Spurs Web Opinion

If the Saints are going to hold out on £35m for Hojbjerg, we must look elsewhere. I think if we can get him on a cheap deal then it is a signing that could make sense, however, I am not convinced he has the quality to direct us to where we are wanting to go. It is definitely a position we need to address but I am not sure he is the answer.
