According to UOL journalist Andre Hernan in a new YouTube video, Everton are indeed one of the clubs interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur attacker Lucas Moura, but they want to wait until the summer to bring him in.
Moura has been with Tottenham since January 2018 and has amassed 213 appearances for the club, scoring 38 goals and providing 27 assists during his time in North London (Transfermarkt).
With the arrival of players like Dejan Kulusevski and Richarlison, combined with injury problems for Moura, the Brazilian has found his game time limited over the last 12 months and has slipped down the pecking order in Antonio Conte’s attack.
The 30-year-old has just 11 appearances this season (Transfermarkt) and with just six months left on his current contract, the club made the decision not to trigger an extension (The Telegraph) and will allow Moura to leave for free at the end of the season.
UOL previously reported that Moura may be looking at returning to Brazil, to rejoin his former club Sao Paulo, but a piece from The Athletic suggested Moura has not been in contact with any club thus far and would be assessing his options in the near future.
The latest from Brazil claims Premier League side Everton have emerged as a contender to snap Moura up, and their journalist Hernan has now clarified the situation with further details.
Hernan explains Everton have made a “query” regarding Moura, but do not intend to attempt to sign him this month as they don’t want to pay for him.
Spurs Web Opinion
I can understand Everton not wanting to go for Moura just yet. Why pay money now when you could sign him for free in the summer? However, with the Toffees firmly in the relegation battle, they may not sign Moura at all, as I doubt he would want to play in the Championship.
