Report: Everton linked with Celtic defender who could be Spurs target’s replacement

The Mirror reported earlier this month that Tottenham wish to bring in Everton full-back Lucas Digne to be their new first-choice left back.

It was claimed that Everton were demanding Danny Rose in exchange, with the England international suggesting that he was unsure if he will remain at Spurs next season (talkSPORT).

Everton recently extended veteran defender Leighton Baines’s contract by another year and it was thought that the 34-year-old would be Digne’s back up for another season. However, The Scottish Herald now claim that the Toffees are willing to meet Celtic’s £25million valuation for Kieran Tierney.

If Everton do secure Tierney’s signing, having already extended Baines’ contracts, then it would leave them with three left-backs, potentially meaning that they might let Digne leave the club.

The 25-year-old who scored 4 goals and registered 4 assists last season, is expected to cost much more than the £22million Everton paid a year ago (The Mirror).

It could just be that Everton have offered Baines a new contract in order to get more money for him this summer. However, paying £25million for a left back when they already have Digne at the club doesn’t make much sense. We believe the Frenchman would be a fantastic addition to the Tottenham squad if the deal does go through.
