Report: Everton said to be interested in midfielder linked with Spurs in January

According to reports in Italy, Everton have entered the race for Fiorentina midfielder Gaetano Castrovilli, who was previously linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Castrovilli has had an impressive season in the heart of the Fiorentina midfield and has been one of the Serie A side’s most consistent performers this campaign.

He has outperformed expectations since arriving from Serie B side Bari last summer and his impressive displays have even seen him win his first cap for the Italian national side.

Although the 23-year-old has predominantly been used as a box-to-box midfielder this season, he can also play in number ten role as well as out wide.

FC Inter News reported back in January that Tottenham wanted to sign the Italian in January, just half a season into his time at Florence but the move failed to materialise.

Calcio Mercato claim that Carlo Ancelotti wants to bring the Fiorentina star to Goodison Park but is suggested that a deal is unlikely to go through this summer.

Juventus and Inter Milan are also said to be interested in the midfielder but Tottenham have not been named as a potential suitor on this occasion.

Spurs Web Opinion

We have been linked with a fair few central midfielders over the past few weeks which I find to be a little puzzling. We do not really need creative midfielders unless we are planning on letting someone like Ndombele leave. A defensive midfielder should be a much bigger priority for us this summer.
