Report: Ex-Arsenal boss wants to complete deadline day swoop for Spurs player

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that former Arsenal boss Unai Emery is keen to bring Giovani Lo Celso to Villarreal before this evening’s transfer deadline.

Tottenham are expected to announce their captures of Juventus duo Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur this afternoon (Evening Standard) but the North London club’s activity today is expected to be dominated by departures.

According to The Daily Mirror, Spurs are also negotiating exits for Lo Celso, Steven Bergwijn, Dele Alli, Matt Doherty and Tanguy Ndombele at the moment.

Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that Lo Celso could be on his way to El Madrigal before this evening’s deadline.

The journalist revealed that Villarreal are in talks with Spurs over a loan deal for the Argentine. Both clubs are said to be negotiating details regarding the 25-year-old’s salary.

Romano also asserted that the Yellow Submarine are Lo Celso’s preferred destination after the Tottenham man turned down the chance to join Lyon.

I am not surprised that Lo Celso is keen on a return to La Liga, given the success he enjoyed in Betis during the 2018/19 campaign. Hopefully, the deal can be completed before the deadline. One would expect Spurs to cover a portion of the midfielder’s wages as Villarreal are not likely to be able to pay the 25-year-old’s full salary.
