Report: Experienced Spurs star now ‘surplus to requirements’ – Ready to accept offers

Tottenham Hotspur are now thought to be ready to accept offers for Ben Davies, with Football Insider claiming the Welshman is regarded as ‘surplus to requirements’ in Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

Davies has now been with Tottenham for ten years, having joined from Swansea back in the summer of 2014. He has made 330 appearances for the Lilywhites in that time (Transfermarkt).

He has been a loyal servant over the years and offers incredible versatility and experience to the squad, but we may have already seen Davies in a Spurs shirt for the last time.

The 31-year-old is currently injured and will not play again this season. But, reports have already suggested Tottenham would be open to offers for Davies if they were to arrive this summer (Paul O’Keefe).

With Destiny Udogie firmly the first-choice left-back, and Spurs now spoiled for choice at centre-back, it does seem Davies could be forced into the fringes of Ange Postecoglou‘s squad.

Time’s up for Ben Davies at Tottenham

Now, the latest from Football Insider reveals Davies is indeed considered available for transfer by Spurs ahead of the summer as part of an overhaul of the squad.

Davies is now looking likely to be “surplus to requirements” at Tottenham and could be “set to depart” at the end of the season.

Despite Davies being a “big figure” in the dressing room, sources suggest his “time at the club could be up.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Ben Davies has been such a brilliant servant to this club, and it will be sad to see him go. I would personally keep him for another season as he is a great, experienced head to have around and he still offers enough flexibility to cover a number of roles.

Whether Davies wants to sit around on the peripheries of the squad, is another matter, though.
