Report explains distance between Spurs and Roma in Zaniolo valuation

The print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (09/08/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness) has now explained how far Tottenham and AS Roma are apart in their respective valuations of Nicolo Zaniolo.

90 min reported on Monday that Tottenham had made an offer to sign Zaniolo on loan with an obligation to buy for €25m (£21.1m) plus a further €10m (£8.4m) in add-ons, which was rejected by Roma.

Gazzetta have now said that the obligation to buy in Spurs’ latest offer for the winger ‘could go up to more than €40m’ (£33.8m) but the conditions for that fee to be triggered have been ‘demented unsuitable’ by the Giallorossi.

The report explains the 23-year-old would have to start at least 50% of the games and Tottenham would have to finish in the top four for the aforementioned fee to be triggered.

Furthermore, it is said that Roma want around €10m (£8.4m) upfront as a loan fee, which Spurs are not thought to be willing to pay.

Gazzetta add that, as things stand, ‘there is a distance between demand and offer’.

Spurs Web Opinion

It sounds like the two clubs are still quite a long way away from reaching an agreement. However, that does not mean that Tottenham cannot make a vastly improved bid over the coming days or weeks. Perhaps, Spurs are waiting to move some of their fringe players before pushing ahead with an offer for the 23-year-old.
