Report explains how close Tottenham are to meeting Pedro Porro price tag

According to the print edition of A Bola (17/01/23 as relayed by Sport Witness), there still remains a considerable distance between Tottenham and Sporting Lisbon’s valuations of Pedro Porro.

It has been well documented that Tottenham and Sporting have been locked in negotiations over Porro since the start of the January transfer window and some publications have even suggested over recent days that the North London club might turn their attention to other right-back targets (FC Inter News).

However, Fabrizio Romano took to social media on Tuesday to reveal that discussions between the two clubs for Porro are still ongoing and that Spurs ‘will insist’ on completing a deal for the 23-year-old.

A Bola have now provided an update on the Spaniard’s future, revealing that a meeting took place yesterday between Tottenham’s representatives and Sporting president Frederico Varandas.

The publication explains that the Portuguese club are standing firm and demanding that Spurs meet Porro’s €45m (£39.5m) release clause, which the Premier League club are ‘very far’ from doing.

The report states that Tottenham could return for the Spaniard in the coming weeks but adds that Chelsea are also in the mix for the right-back’s signature.

Based on the recent reports, it does sound like the negotiations for Porro could drag on until the final few days of the window. If a club like Chelsea swoop in and pay the right-back’s release clause, the Spurs hierarchy will be left with eggs on their faces.
