Report explains how Djed Spence is doing in France as he faces a problem

Tottenham Hotspur’s Djed Spence is facing a challenging time on loan at Rennes right now, having not played for the club since the international break last month.

Spence signed for Tottenham last summer after a long drawn-out transfer saga. Sadly, his time with the Lilywhites has not gone to plan at all so far.

The young wing-back clearly didn’t fit into Antonio Conte’s plans, and left Spurs in the January transfer window to join French side Rennes until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an exciting start to his time in Ligue 1, making ten appearances for Rennes (Transfermarkt).

Spence received particular praise for his role in Rennes’ shock 2-0 win over French champions PSG last month.

However, since the international break in March, the youngster has registered just seven minutes of action for his temporary club, as a substitute in the recent defeat to Lens.

With his loan spell coming to an end in the near future, Spence will be hoping he can break back into the Rennes team before returning to his parent club and making an impression on the next Spurs boss.

A report from Football.London breaks down the difficulties facing Spence right now as he looks ahead to the culmination of a disappointing season both at home and in France.

The move to Rennes was seen as a “huge opportunity” for Spence in the search of the game time he “craved”, but with seven games to go until that loan spell ends, it remains to be seen whether he will even start another game for the French club.

Regardless, it is thought the summer will present a “fresh start” for a player who was left out in the cold by Conte at Spurs. The report suggests the fact a new manager will be coming in “could be what he needs” to get his Tottenham career up and running finally.

Whoever comes in as manager next, I really hope they give Spence the chance to show what he can do.

He’s such a talented young player, he’s just had a frustrating season and needs some confidence and encouragement to get going.
