Real Madrid are reportedly considering a move for PSG striker Kylian Mbappe, and it is thought this could help Tottenham Hotspur keep hold of Harry Kane this summer. However, the report suggests the idea that PSG could then move for Kane themselves.
Mbappe is one of the most high-profile and talented players in world football right now and Madrid have long held an interest in the Frenchman.
However, a report from AS recently claimed Madrid were ending their pursuit of the England captain due to his wage demands.
The situation surrounding Mbappe was already thought to be influencing Madrid’s pursuit of Kane, with Relevo suggesting the Spanish side may prefer to wait until 2024 and sign Mbappe on a free transfer.
It has emerged that Mbappe “will not trigger a 12-month option on his current deal”, which has left PSG willing to “listen to offers” for their star man.
With Mbappe “effectively for sale” Madrid are believed to be considering a big approach for the 24-year-old that would “likely cost over £100 million.”
Could PSG turn to Kane if Mbappe leaves?
A transfer of that magnitude is expected to “wipe out” Madrid”s budget, especially after the signing of Jude Bellingham. With this in mind, Madrid would almost certainly end their interest in Kane.
The report claims the only issue for Tottenham in this situation would be if PSG were to turn to Kane as a replacement for Mbappe.
Spurs Web Opinion
Real Madrid would almost certainly rather sign Mbappe than Kane, and I can definitely see this transfer coming to fruition this summer.
PSG know they are going to lose their star man one way or another and would surely rather get a big transfer now than see him leave for nothing.
