Report explains how some Tottenham players feel about Conte’s departure

The Evening Standard have revealed that many Tottenham players were pleased to see Antonio Conte depart, having grown tired of his training sessions.

Tottenham finally confirmed on Sunday that they had parted ways with Conte, with Cristian Stellini set to take charge as interim head coach until the end of the season and Ryan Mason as his assistant.

The Evening Standard have now stated that Spurs called time on the Italian’s tenure as they believed he had lost the dressing room and would thus have little chance of guiding the club to a top-four finish.

The report asserts that Conte flew back to Italy after the game against Southampton and showed no willingness to return to Tottenham, leaving Daniel Levy to agree on an exit package with him remotely on Sunday night.

It is explained that Spurs accepted the 53-year-old’s explanation that his rant was directed solely at the players to get a response from the squad but the club hierarchy believed he had gone too far and that he did not stand a chance of getting the players back on side.

The Evening Standard assert that many of the players expected Conte to be sacked and were pleased when the club finally made the decision.

The publication adds that it was not just the Italian’s rant that did not sit well with the players but they had also grown tired of his repetitive training sessions and his habit of deflecting blame onto them publicly.

Spurs Web Opinion

The fact that none of the Spurs players, not even the likes of Kane and Son, have sent a public thank you message after Conte’s sacking is quite telling.

It is clear that the Italian had completely lost the dressing room over the last few months.

I do feel a bit sorry for Conte, given the issues he has dealt with in his personal life recently.

That could well have played a part in the wheels eventually coming off.
