Report explains how Timo Werner joining Chelsea could benefit Spurs

Football.London report that Chelsea sealing a deal to sign RB Leipzig star Timo Werner could work to Tottenham’s advantage as it may offer the Lilywhites the chance to sign Olivier Giroud.

Chelsea have reportedly agreed a deal in principle to sign Werner, with an announcement said to be imminent.

However, Football.London report that the German international’s arrival will force the Blues to sell some of the strikers already on their books.

It is suggested that Tammy Abraham will stay put at Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable future, which means that Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi are likely to be on their way out of Chelsea.

Giroud was linked with a move to Spurs during the January transfer window (Daily Mail), and the Lilywhites have been backed to return for the striker’s services in the summer.

The report suggests that, despite Chelsea activating a clause to extend Giroud’s contract by one year, the striker could still be sold this summer.

It is said that the 33-year-old’s deal could have been extended by Frank Lampard’s side in order to ensure they secure a fee for him when he leaves.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is conceivable that Chelsea will let Giroud leave if they sign Werner, and one would expect us to be interested in given that the Frenchman he fits the profile of what we need. However, I still doubt if Chelsea will want to sell the striker to us. Giroud will probably end up at a Serie A club.
