Report explains if Dane Scarlett can play for Portsmouth vs Spurs in FA Cup

Football.London have revealed that Dane Scarlett will not be able to feature for Portsmouth in their FA Cup clash against Tottenham next month.

Spurs kick off their FA Cup campaign with a clash against Pompey at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on January 7, 2023. It will be the first time that the two clubs have played each other since 2010.

Scarlett, who is currently on loan from Tottenham at Fratton Park, was not permitted to play in the FA Cup second-round tie against MK Dons on Saturday.

Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley revealed in an interview with BBC Radio Solent that Spurs had indicated they would permit the 18-year-old to be used in the third-round.

However, Football.London have explained that players who are out on loan are not allowed to play against their parent club, which means that Scarlett will sit out the clash against the Lilywhites in January.

Interestingly, the teenager could feature for Tottenham against Portsmouth if the North London club decide to recall him from his loan spell as he is not cup-tied as a result of having sat out the clash against MK Dons.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not expect Tottenham to recall Scarlett in January unless there is a major injury crisis at the North London club over the next month. The 18-year-old’s development will be better served by getting a full campaign under his belt at Fratton Park.
