Report explains if Pedro Porro is cup-tied or if he can play for Spurs in Champions League

The Sun have revealed that Pedro Porro can be registered in Tottenham’s Champions League squad for the knockout stages despite featuring in the group stages of the competition for Sporting Lisbon earlier in the season.

After Tottenham’s pursuit of Porro seemed on the verge of falling through on Monday (David Ornstein), the club managed to get the deal over the line on deadline day for an initial loan fee of £5m with an obligation to make the deal permanent for another £39m in the summer (Sky Sports).

Fabio Paratici told the club’s official website that everyone at Tottenham is delighted to get the deal over the line, revealing that the club had also looked at the Spaniard last summer.

Antonio Conte saw first-hand the kind of attacking threat that Porro can provide from right wing-back in the Lilywhites’ two Champions League group stage clashes against Sporting earlier this season.

Some Spurs fans may be wondering whether the 23-year-old’s appearances for the Portuguese club might mean that he is cup-tied but that is not the case according to The Sun’s update.

The publication reveals that according to article 46.02 in UEFA’s laws, clubs can register players who have featured for other teams in the group stage of the Champions League, Europe League or Europa Conference League.
