Chronicle Live have claimed that Leicester City want to resolve James Maddison’s future quickly as Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United circle over the attacking midfielder.
It has been well documented over the last couple of months that Spurs’ main competitors for Maddison are Newcastle United, with Sky Sports even reporting on Monday that the Magpies had moved ahead of the Lilywhites in the pursuit of the Leicester star.
Leicester want Maddison deal done quickly
However, Chronicle Live have now stated that Newcastle will not be pushed into a bidding war or to spend over their valuation on the midfielder as they have a ‘flexible list of targets’.
The report claims that Maddison is expected to move a ‘step closer’ to departing the King Power Stadium this week as Leicester want to start working on his situation over the coming days ahead of their return to the Championship.
The outlet explains that while Maddison is not against move to the North East, so far, he has left discussions over his future with his agency CAA Base as he rests and recuperates at the end of a difficult season.
Chronicle Live note that Tottenham hold a ‘firm interest’ in the former Norwich man, who is on Ange Postecoglou’s wishlist and add that the Foxes are keen to resolve his future ‘sooner rather than later’.
Spurs Web Opinion
If Tottenham can get the Maddison and David Raya deals over the line over the next couple of weeks, that would represent an excellent start to the transfer window.
We would have filled two priority positions with two top players who are both homegrown (Raya spent three years with an English club before turning 21) before the start of pre-season.
