Report explains one advantage Chelsea have over Spurs in race for defender

90 min claim that Chelsea have a big advantage over Tottenham and the other suitors in the race for Josko Gvardiol since the Blues are willing to complete a deal for the centre-back in January.

Gvardiol’s stock has risen drastically over the last two months in light of his showing at the World Cup, and 90 min have named six clubs who have expressed an interest in the Leipzig star.

The report states that Spurs, Liverpool and Manchester United are following the centre-back’s situation while Real Madrid and Manchester City have both spoken with Leipzig but it is Chelsea who are said to be the frontrunners for the player’s signature.

This is because Graham Potter’s men want to sign the 20-year-old next month while the other five clubs are only interested in summer deals.

90 min add that Chelsea are ‘confident’ of winning the race for Gvardiol’s signature as the West London club have continued to hold talks with Leipzig about the defender since the summer.

The Blues are now allegedly looking to wrap up a deal for the Croat ‘as soon as possible’ after snapping up Christopher Nkunku from the Red Bull Arena.

Spurs Web Opinion

Any chance that Spurs had of winning the race for Gvardiol have likely ended on the back of his showing in Qatar. His value is now likely in the £80m-£100m range, which is not something Tottenham will pay. I suspect the North London club’s full attention will turn to Alessandro Bastoni ahead of next summer’s transfer window.
