Report explains one area Conte is pressuring Spurs on ahead of January

The Times have claimed that Antonio Conte has made it clear to the Tottenham hierarchy that he wants experienced players to be brought through the door in January.

Over the last few days, there have been some concerning reports regarding the negotiations between Conte and the club regarding a new deal for the Italian.

The Athletic reported earlier this week that some sources close to key figures at Spurs are now less optimistic that the 53-year-old will sign a new contract.

The report explained that the main point of contention was likely the club’s ambition, with the Tottenham head coach having doubts over whether Daniel Levy shares the same aim that he does to see the Lilywhites challenging for major honours.

It was asserted that the Italian was keen to ensure that the club do not fail to sign an elite right wing-back for a third consecutive transfer window, which was said to be a possibility since the club’s top target Pedro Porro could prove quite expensive.

The Times have now added that Conte has told the club that he wants players with experience to be signed next month.

The report states that the former Inter Milan boss is ‘putting pressure’ on the Tottenham hierarchy to deliver the same ahead of Tottenham’s crunch Premier League and Champions League fixtures in the second part of the campaign.

With the signing of Ivan Perisic in the summer, Tottenham showed that they are willing to move from their modus operandi of not signing players over 30. Perhaps, Conte is now pushing for Stefan de Vrij to be brought to the club in January.
