While the performances of Lucas Bergvall have caught the attention of most Spurs fans during pre-season, another 18-year-old has also given a very good account of himself in the friendlies so far.

Gray, who arrived at Tottenham in a £40m deal earlier this summer, is widely viewed as one of the best players in his age group across the English game.

The teenager showed maturity beyond his years after breaking into Leeds’ starting eleven last season, impressing at right-back as well as in the middle of the park.

Archie Gray could play at right-back this season

The Telegraph have revealed that it is Gray’s versatility, allied with his promise, that made him a particularly attractive target for Postecoglou.

There is said to be a belief at Hotspur Way that the youngster is ready for the highest level, with many at the club expecting him to serve as Pedro Porro’s understudy this season.

The publication adds, however, right-back is not seen as Gray’s long-term position, with the Leeds academy graduate expected to develop into a top-class deep-lying playmaker in the years to come.

Now that Postecoglou has seemingly decided to hang onto Djed Spence, it will be interesting to see if his plans for Gray change.

We might see the teenagers given opportunities to play as a number six in the Europa League group matches.
