Report explains potential details of Antonio Conte’s severance at Spurs

A report from the Independent has shed some light on the situation at Tottenham Hotspur right now, as Antonio Conte’s future at the club looks set to be determined once he returns from Italy.

Conte has been with Tottenham for 16 months now, but his tenure has been tumultuous of late, to say the least.

It was expected that the club and the Italian would part ways in the summer when Conte’s current contract expires (Daily Mail).

That departure may well have been expedited when, after a 3-3 draw with Southampton at the weekend, Conte delivered a highly-critical press conference where he slammed the Spurs players and owners (Football.London).

In the fallout of that situation, it has been largely speculated that Conte will lose his job this week (Telegraph).

The 53-year-old is currently back in Italy as the domestic season takes a pause for the international break.

According to the latest from the Independent, the fact Conte is not in the country may well delay any decision being made on his future.

It is thought “there will be no movement” until both Conte and the Spurs hierarchy can sit down face-to-face to discuss the matter.

Conte’s fate currently hangs in the balance, and there is a belief that the impending discussions will centre around “the wording of any departure.”

With a reported £4 million severance package in his contract, it remains to be seen whether a “mutual” parting would impact that at this stage.

I imagine that now, that severance fee is the only thing standing in the way of Conte being dismissed.

Obviously, Levy would love to get a mutual termination in place and save some money, but Conte is too stubborn to just walk away like that.

Hopefully, Conte returns to England soon so we can get this all wrapped up one way or another as soon as possible.
