Report explains what Conte and Levy contract talks will centre around

The Daily Mail have revealed that neither Antonio Conte nor Daniel Levy are likely to ‘give an inch’ as the pair are set to sit down for talks over a new contract.

The report explains that the parties will begin their talks next month and the fact that Spurs have an option to extend the Italian’s current deal, which runs out at the end of next season, takes some pressure off the club.

Football Insider reported earlier this month that Tottenham are prepared to offer their head coach a salary of £20m per season, which would make him the highest-paid manager in the Premier League.

However, The Mail’s latest update reveals that those in the know have described the £20m suggestion as ‘wild’.

It is revealed that the talks will centre around vision and ambition, with Conte’s priority being success on the pitch.

The Spurs boss is understandably expected to demand commitment to improving the team so Spurs move closer to challenging for major trophies.

The Mail add that Conte is expected to be ‘combative’ in expressing his views while the Tottenham hierarchy will argue they have already backed the 53-year-old by making six new signings in the summer.

In case an agreement proves to be difficult, it is said that Levy will survey the managerial landscape, with attractive options like Thomas Tuchel and Mauricio Pochettino currently out of work.

This report does not tell us too much that we do not know already as Conte and Levy are not characters who back down during negotiations.

The Italian will certainly push the envelope and demand as much investment into the squad as possible but the Spurs hierarchy cannot afford to give him a blank chequebook.

So, there will likely have to some compromise on both sides and I believe that an agreement will be reached as Conte seems invested in the project and Levy will want to do the utmost to hang on to the Italian.
