Report explains what Conte has told Hugo Lloris ahead of the summer at Spurs

The Daily Mirror have claimed that while Antonio Conte has assured Hugo Lloris that he will be Tottenham’s number one until the end of the season, the North London club are expected to be in the market for the Frenchman’s successor next summer.

Frequent mistakes have crept into Lloris’ game this season, the latest of which came against Aston Villa on New Year’s Day, with the goalkeeper spilling a long-range attempt from Douglas Luiz, allowing the visitors to capitalise and score their opening goal of the game.

Multiple reports over recent weeks have indicated that Spurs are plotting a move for a new number one next summer (Football.London).

This has now been backed up by The Mirror, who state that Lloris will remain the club’s first choice between the sticks until the summer as Tottenham do not see Fraser Forster as anything more than a backup.

However, the situation is expected to change next summer, with Conte’s men ready to look at potential goalkeeping options. The report adds that Lloris’ leadership skills are highly valued at Spurs and the club are thus not in a rush to remove him.

It is asserted that the Lilywhites could bring in an up-and-coming goalkeeper next summer to compete with Lloris, with a view to eventually taking over the gloves from the 36-year-old.

Lloris is contracted to Spurs until the summer of 2024 and so, I can see the club hanging on to the Frenchman as a backup for next season. Having said that, if the 36-year-old continues making mistakes over the next few months, this could well be his last season at the club.
