Report explains when Spurs want Cristian Romero to return to the club

Tottenham Hotspur have requested that Cristian Romero returns to the club now despite Argentina’s ongoing World Cup celebrations, according to the player’s father in a report by La Voz.

Argentina lifted the World Cup trophy after a thrilling final encounter with France on Sunday evening in Qatar. With the game poised at 2-2 after 90 minutes, and 3-3 after extra time, it was down to a penalty shootout to determine the winners.

Romero played all 120 minutes of the game and impressed throughout, despite the Argentina defence conceding three goals.

Romero had a fine tournament overall for Argentina, building on his reputation and taking his tally to 19 caps (Transfermarkt). His display in the final was enough to cause La Voz to describe him as one of the best ‘on the planet’ in his position.

The Argentina squad has been parading around Buenos Aires since, celebrating the success with their fans. It leaves Spurs wondering when Romero will actually report back for club duties.

While talkSport pundit Jamie O’Hara insists Romero should be ready for selection again in Spurs’ Boxing Day clash with Brentford, many suspect Romero will get an extended break.

Now though, Romero’s father has revealed Spurs have been in contact with him regarding the situation, and have requested the 24-year-old return to North London ahead of the resumption of the domestic season on December 26.

He said: “He won’t have much time to enjoy himself. We’ll see how it goes. But they already want him back in England.”

As much as Romero will want this party to go on forever, it sadly has to end at some point and he must revert his focus back to Tottenham Hotspur and the ambitions of the club. He’s such an important player for us, and we will be a lot stronger with him in the side, so hopefully he can be ready for the Brentford game.
