Report explains why European giants are ‘not confident’ of signing Spurs player

The Athletic’s Charlie Eccleshare has revealed that Ajax have expressed an interest in a move for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in next month’s transfer window but are not confident of getting a deal over the line.

Eccleshare claims that Tottenham are expected to bring a new midfielder through the door next month, with Ange Postecoglou ideally wanting a versatile midfielder, who can operate as a six or an eight with Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr both heading off to AFCON early next month,

Ajax are thought to have expressed an interest in signing the Dane but the Eredivisie club are aware that Tottenham are not interested in a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

As a result, the Dutch club are not confident of winning the race for the 28-year-old, with Juventus also continuing to circle.

Hojbjerg would prefer Juventus move

Eccleshare suggests that Hojbjerg himself is keener on moving to the Turin club if they were to make a push for him, rather than joining Ajax.

It is thought that Tottenham’s stance on the midfielder has not changed since the summer, with the North London club open to cashing in on the player but only if their asking price is met.

Spurs Web Opinion

If another midfielder does arrive through the door in January (and all indications are that Spurs will push hard for Conor Gallagher), I would expect Hojbjerg to be granted his wish of an exit.

However, Juventus are not likely to be able to afford a permanent deal unless they raise some funds by offloading some of their players. Perhaps Spurs may explore the option of a straight swap for Samuel Iling-Junior.
