Report explains why Jose Mourinho is reluctant to play Troy Parrott

Despite the injuries to Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, Jose Mourinho has so far opted against handing Troy Parrott an opportunity to help fill the void.

The 18-year-old has not featured for the first team since being appearing as a late substitute for his Premier League debut in the 5-0 victory over Burnley in December.

In fact, the Spurs head coach has not even named Parrott on the bench in recent weeks despite admitting to the difficulties of playing without a striker (Football.London).

A report by The Athletic has revealed that there are still question marks over the Irishman’s mentality and application and that some people in the club have been left surprised by the striker’s immaturity when he is with his friends.

It is suggested that Mourinho has not given an explanation to Parrott as to why he is not being selected, with the youngster having to rely instead on the Spurs boss’ statements to the media.

A source from the club is also said to have explained that Marcus Rashford was “in a different galaxy” in terms of his development to Parrott when he was handed his chance for Manchester United by Louis van Gaal when he was just 17 years of age.

It is claimed that the people at the club aren’t convinced that Parrott is ready yet to deal with the demands of first-team football.

Spurs Web Opinion

While I understand why some Spurs fans are repeatedly calling for Jose to hand Parrott an opportunity, the reality is that we don’t watch him train every day. So we have to trust the manager’s judgement at the moment. I doubt the 18-year-old would have signed a contract with the club if he didn’t feel he was going to be handed opportunities under Mourinho.
