Report explains why Julian Nagelsmann turned down a Tottenham move

The Daily Mail have now claimed that it was Julian Nagelsman who rejected Tottenham rather than the North London club choosing against making a move for the German.

It emerged on Friday that Tottenham had ended their interest in appointing Nagelsmann as Antonio Conte‘s replacement (Evening Standard).

According to the report, Spurs insisted that they had not held any talks with the 35-year-old as they do not consider him a good fit for the role.

According to The Mail’s latest update, Tottenham have now said that they do not intend on formalising their interest in Nagelsmann even though they have ‘great respect’ for him.

However, the outlet adds that the recently departed Bayern Munich boss was indeed the North London club’s top target and it was he who withdrew himself from contention for the role.

This is because Nagelsmann was allegedly not convinced by the direction that Tottenham had decided to take for this summer.

It is asserted that Arne Slot, Roberto De Zerbi and Luis Enrique are among the alternatives that the Spurs hierarchy are now considering.

It appears likely that Nagelsmann was the man who turned down Tottenham and that the club are merely trying to save face by claiming the opposite.

This was always a big possibility, which is why the club’s decision not to approach Mauricio Pochettino was quite bizarre.
