Report explains why there is delay in Tottenham announcing Djed Spence

The Evening Standard (18/07/22 – print edition) have reported that small delays with paperwork have slightly setback the announcement of Djed Spence for Spurs, but it should still happen today or tomorrow.

Tottenham were expected to announce the signing of Djed Spence from Middlesbrough at any point on Monday, pending the completion of some remaining paperwork, according to Football.London.

It is explained the 21-year-old has completed his medical and media duties with Spurs, while a formal confirmation of the transfer is imminent with the finishing touches being placed on the move.

Sky Sports reported last week that Spurs managed to close in on a £12.5 million deal, rising to £20 million for Spence, who enjoyed a successful spell on loan at Nottingham Forest last season.

The England U21 international is set to become the sixth player to move to north London this summer as Antonio Conte continues to strengthen his chances of success ahead of the new season.

Spence starred during Forest’s promotion-winning campaign last term, making 46 appearances across all competitions for Steve Cooper’s side (Transfermarkt).

Now set to make the step up to the Premier League with Spurs, he becomes the fourth right wing-back option for Conte with Matt Doherty, Emerson Royal, and even Lucas Moura.

Even though an official announcement is still yet to be made, we can wind down and relax regarding the Spence transfer as it is pretty much over the line.

Hopefully, he will be able to get started with his pre-season preparations as soon as possible so he can familiarise himself with Conte’s demands.
