Report: FA investigating Thomas Tuchel’s comments after 2-2 draw with Spurs

The Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel has revealed that the FA are investigating the comments made by Thomas Tuchel about referee Anthony Taylor following Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham.

It was a fiercely contested London derby at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, with both sets of players showing plenty of aggression on the pitch while the two managers also got into altercations on the sidelines.

The home side were dominant in the first half and went into the interval 1-0 up but Spurs came back into the game through Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s low strike in the 68th minute.

Chelsea then re-took the lead through Reece James nine minutes later before Harry Kane’s stoppage-time header secured a point for the visitors.

Tuchel was adamant in his post-match press conference that neither of Tottenham’s goals should have stood (Hayters TV).

The German coach claimed that Cristian Romero should have been sent off for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair ahead of Kane’s equaliser and even stated that “maybe it would be better” if Anthony Taylor does not officiate Chelsea matches in the future.

Mokbel has now taken to social media to reveal that the FA are investigating Tuchel’s post-match comments.

Spurs Web Opinion

One can understand Tuchel’s frustration, given that Chelsea were the better side and arguably deserved all three points. I think Tottenham’s first goal was perfectly legitimate but he certainly has a point with respect to Romero’s antics ahead of the Spurs’ second.

However, while criticising the decisions is understandable, for a manager to insinuate a refereeing conspiracy and suggest that Taylor should not officiate Chelsea matches, is crossing the line. Tuchel does deserve to be punished by the FA.
