According to a report from Calciomercato.it, Tottenham Hotspur are eyeing a move for Roma centre-back, Roger Ibane.
Tottenham strengthened their backline in the summer through the additions of Cristian Romero and Emerson Royal from Atalanta and Barcelona respectively.
Romero was handed his first Premier League start by Nuno Espirito Santo against Chelsea on Sunday in what proved to be a day to forget for the Argentine as Spurs were beaten 3-0 in the London derby.
Calciomercato.it have now revealed that Tottenham’s managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, could once again look to the Serie A as he aims to bring in more defensive reinforcements at Spurs.
It is asserted that the Italian ‘likes’ Ibane, who impressed on loan at Roma last season and completed a permenant move to the Stadio Olimpico in the summer.
The 22-year-old has started all four of Roma’s Serie A games under Jose Mourinho this season and has been one of the Giallorossi’s best players so far.
However, it now looks as though Tottenham could test the waters for the versatile defender in the coming months.
Spurs Web Opinion
One does understand why Paratici likes operating in the Italian market as that is where his expertise lies. However, we have seen over the past half a decade that the demands of centre-backs in the Premier League are completely different to that of Serie A. So, I do have a few concerns about the club continuing to do their shopping in Italy.
