Report: Fabio Paratici under pressure after ‘toxic transfer window’

The Daily Mail have claimed that Tottenham’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici is under pressure after two underwhelming transfer windows at the helm of the North London club.

Tottenham’s decision to move on four players in January was described as ‘strange’ by Antonio Conte last week, with the Italian insisting that it was indicative of mistakes made by the club in the past (Football.London).

While three of the players who departed Tottenham – Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso – were signed long before Paratici’s arrival, Bryan Gil, who was loaned out to Valencia, was brought to Spurs by the Italian from Sevilla in the summer.

Additionally, both of the Lilywhites’ new additions in January – Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski – were signed from Paratici’s old employers Juventus.

The Athletic revealed last week that there was a sense during last month’s transfer window that Paratici also misjudged how much clubs would be able to pay for the players who were surplus to requirements at Spurs.

The report claimed that a senior figure at one major European club wondered why Tottenham’s managing director of football kept offering deals to buy or loan players that were never going to be attractive to the clubs in question.

If The Mail’s latest update is to be believed, the resignation of Steve Hitchen from his position as Tottenham’s technical performance director has put even more pressure on Paratici ahead of the summer.

However, the publication adds that the former Juve director maintains a good relationship with Conte.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs fans should not take this report at face value as there seems to be a lot of conjecture in it. It is never easy to do business during the January window and Conte appears relatively content with the club’s acquisition of Bentancur and Kulusevski.
