‘Done deal and confirmed’ – Fabrizio Romano claims Spurs’ summer signing is set to leave

Valencia have completed a deal to secure the loan signing of Bryan Gil from Tottenham Hotspur, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Spanish international has been heavily linked with a return to La Liga in the past few days (AS) after finding regular first-team football hard to come by. Romano has been covering the story closely which has been unfolding over the past day.

Romano previously claimed that Valencia were confident of getting a deal over the line before the window closes and having discussed covering his salary.

The 20-year-old appeared to deny reports of him wanting to leave North London earlier this week when on Twitter, he questioned a report by Mundo Deportivo which claimed he was unhappy in England.

Since Antonio Conte was appointed as Spurs’ new head coach at the start of November, he has played just 31 minutes in the Premier League (transfermarkt).

Gil signed a five-year contract in the summer with Tottenham that runs until 2026, having joined from Sevilla in a £21.6million deal, which also saw Erik Lamela head in the other direction (Sky Sports).

Pedro Almeida also claimed yesterday that Valencia were edging closer to a loan deal for Gil on an initial six-month spell, which can be extended by a further twelve months.

A return to Spain will suit Gil from a personal level, however, it makes little sense to help him acclimatise to life in England and also playing week in, week out in the Premier League. A switch to Norwich City would have been a better option, however, Spurs are now appearing desperate to get bodies out of the door before the window close.
