Report: Fan vote names Spurs star’s strike as greatest Premier League goal of all time

Heung-min Son’s wonder goal against Burnley in December was voted as the goal of the season by the Athletic earlier this week.

The award did not come as much of a surprise to many as the South Korean’s pace, skill, and composure were on full display as he dribbled past the entire Burnley defence before slotting it into the back of the net.

There is no doubt that the goal was one of the most impressive strikes by a Spurs player in recent memory.

However, it appears that some football fans don’t just think that Son’s goal is the best of the season, but many feel that it was the greatest Premier League goal of all time.

Sky Sports conducted a poll asking fans to name the greatest goal of the Premier League era and Son’s strike in December came out as a comfortable winner with 26% of the vote.

To put that into context, Wayne Rooney’s overhead kick against Manchester City in 2011 came out in second place with only 13% of the vote.

There is no doubt that Son’s goal was special and deserves to be remembered up there with the best goals in Premier League history. However, I disagree that it is the best one outright and the reason the Spurs forward won so comprehensively in the voting probably has a thing or two to do with his huge following.
