A clear favourite is starting to emerge between Tottenham, West Ham and Southampton in the race for West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, according to the print edition of The Sun (December 12, Page 64).
Johnstone, 28, has entered the final year of his contract with the Baggies and is approaching free agency with his current deal up in the summer.
The England international was one of West Brom’s top performers during their brief stint back in the Premier League and as such, has since started to attract plenty of interest from a number of sides in the division looking to pick up a steal.
Tottenham had shortlisted Johnstone as an option to come into the club with captain Hugo Lloris’ contract situation yet to be resolved, while West Ham and Southampton are keen to bolster their ranks in goal.
However, The Sun now report that the Hammers have now edged in front of the competition and are the leaders to complete a move for Johnstone.
The report claims West Ham are not in a rush to secure a deal with manager David Moyes willing to delay the potential move until the end of the season.

Johnstone would be a solid pick-up for any side, given he performed well during his time in the Premier League as well as having international experience. Hopefully Spurs can resolve the contract situation with Lloris soon to avoid having to look for replacements in a tough market.
