Report: Fenerbahce receive £16m offer for Vedat Muriqi after Spurs had bid rejected

The latest reports from Turkey have installed Lazio as the favourites to sign Tottenham Hotspur target, Vedat Muriqi.

Tottenham reportedly had a bid turned down by Fenerbache for Muriqi during the January transfer window (Turkish TV Channel A Spor) and have been backed to return with another bid for him this summer (Aspor).

While there continues to be speculation from Turkey linking Spurs with a move for the Kosovo international, journalists close to Tottenham, including Football.London’s Alasdair Gold, have express doubts about the rumours.

Fotomac (as relayed by Sport Witness) now report that Spurs are going head-to-head with Lazio for Muriqi’s signature.

The report suggests that the Serie A club are in negotiations with Fenerbache for the centre-forward and have already made an €18million (£16.2m) offer for him.

However, the Turkish giants are said to be holding out for around €20m (£18m) to sanction a deal. Fenerbahce reportedly have little choice but to cash in on the striker as they look to ease their financial owes.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spending around £18m on a striker who is unproven in a top league, is not smart business, particularly when there seem to be more tried and tested options available for the same price. If Jose wants to sign a target man who can hold the ball up, I would prefer us to bring in an option like Deeney, rather than taking a gamble on Muriqi.
