Report: Feyenoord are taking key step to try and keep Slot away from Spurs

The Daily Mail have revealed that Feyenoord are set to offer Arne Slot a significant pay rise in order to keep him out of Tottenham’s clutches this summer.

Slot’s reputation as one of the best up-and-coming coaches has blossomed after he guided Feyenoord to a historic title triumph this season.

The Mail state that the Dutchman has been ‘highly recommended’ to Tottenham this summer and Feyenoord are aware of the North London club’s interest.

In an effort to persuade him to stay, the league champions have allegedly opened talks with their head coach on a new deal worth £2.5m per season.

While that is a significant offer by the Dutch club’s standards, it is explained that Tottenham could quite easily offer considerably more.

For comparison, Antonio Conte was reportedly earning £15m per season during his stint in N17.

The Mail explain that Feyenoord are hoping that the opportunity to take the team he moulded into the Champions League next season and build on the success of this term could be too tempting to refuse for the 44-year-old.

The publication adds that Slot also has significant power at De Kuip and he might ask for a similar level of control at his next club.

Spurs Web Opinion

Slot would be aware that the managerial market is quite fickle and that he might not get a chance to move to a top Premier League club again in the future if Feyenoord fall short of expectations next season.

So, I would be surprised if the Dutchman signs a new deal with the Eredivisie club before listening to the offers that come his way.
