Report: Fierce Tottenham rival working on deal to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu

According to The Athletic, Arsenal are now working on a deal to sign Takehiro Tomiyasu, who was heavily linked with a move to Tottenham all summer.

There looks set to be a change in the right-back department at Spurs on transfer deadline day, with Emerson Royal set to arrive from Barcelona and Serge Aurier potentially on his way out.

Earlier in the summer, it was Tomiyasu who was rumoured to be Fabio Paratici’s number one right-back target and it was reported at the time that the Japanese international was keen on joining Spurs.

However, Tottenham were not able to agree on a deal with Bologna for the 23-year-old.

It looks like Tomiyasu could potentially be on his way to the other half of North London if The Athletic’s latest update is to be believed.

They claim that the Gunners are now in talks with Bologna over a deal for the defender but add the transfer will depend on other potential player movements at the club.

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe Tottenham’s decision to abandon their pursuit of Tomiyasu/Milenkovic and go for a right-back of Emerson’s profile, is absolutely the right one.

Tanganga has shown that he is more than capable of performing the defensive right-back/right-centre-back role and we thus needed a more adventurous right-back option.
