Report: Fiorentina rejected player swap deal proposed by Spurs for Sofyan Amrabat

Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has revealed that Fiorentina rejected the chance to sign Giovani Lo Celso as part of the deal to take Sofyan Amrabat to Tottenham.

Tottenham are thought to be in talks with Fiorentina over signing Amrabat on an initial loan deal with an option to buy for €16m (£13.4m) in the summer (The Guardian).

The Telegraph revealed earlier this week that Antonio Conte is a ‘fan’ of the Moroccan international and that the Italian was the one who recommended his signing to the Spurs hierarchy.

Meanwhile, Lo Celso is one of the players Tottenham are thought to be keen on shifting before Monday’s transfer deadline (Evening Standard).

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealed on Monday that the Argentine is attracting interest from Sevilla before the print edition of AS revealed on Tuesday (as relayed by Sport Witness) that Real Betis had also entered the race for the Spurs man.

Pedulla has now explained that Tottenham offered Lo Celso to Fiorentina as part of the deal to bring Amrabat to N17. However, he revealed La Viola allegedly declined the offer as they do not view signing a midfielder as a priority.

It would likely not be too challenging for Spurs to find a buyer for Lo Celso. One would expect plenty of La Liga clubs to show an interest in the 25-year-old, given how well he did at Betis in the 2018/19 campaign.

However, I do worry that Spurs seem to be willing to let all three of Lo Celso, Ndombele and Dele leave, without bringing in another attacking midfielder.
