Football London have reported that Sergio Reguilon is a potential doubt for Tottenham’s clash against Newcastle this evening.
The left-wing-back apparently pulled up in training on Thursday and was unable to continue, just two and a half days before the game against the Magpies.
The report claims that Reguilon still has a chance of returning, but suggests Matt Doherty could replace him on the left if he is unable to start, with Emerson Royal potentially taking up the right-wing-back berth.
Ben Davies is also expected to start the match against Newcastle despite returning to Hotspur Way early from his international break with Wales.
Reguilon’s unavailability would come as a huge blow to Antonio Conte, with fellow left-wing-back Ryan Sessegnon already sidelined with an injury.
This would leave the Italian with no natural left-sided defenders beyond Davies, although the Welshman has played mainly as a central defender this season.
Spurs Web Opinion:
This threatens to upset the balance of the wing-back system, with the second-choice right-wing-back starting and the first-choice playing on his weaker side. I would be tempted to keep Doherty at RWB and play Bergwijn or Kulusevski LWB.
