Report: Fonseca wants to bring three Roma stars to Spurs

According to a report from La Repubblica (as relayed by The Sun), Paulo Fonseca wants to bring three Roma stars with him to Tottenham.

Fonseca now looks set to be confirmed as the next Tottenham boss, almost two months on from Jose Mourinho’s sacking.

The impending appointment has understandably not generated much enthusiasm among the Spurs fan base following the club’s failed attempts to get Mauricio Pochettino and Antonio Conte.

If Fonseca is to be successful at Tottenham and guide them back into the Champions League, he is going to have to be backed, with the squad looking desperately in need of reinforcements in several areas.

La Repubblica state that Fonseca is eyeing a reunion with defender Gianluca Mancini, as well as midfielders Lorenzo Pellegrini and Gonzalo Villar, in North London.

Mancini was central to Foncesca’s set-up at Roma owing to his ability on the ball and his one vs one defending while Pellegrini has enjoyed a fine season, scoring 11 times and registering 9 assists in all competitions.

Villar, who was signed by Fonseca from Elche last summer, had a promising first season in Rome and won his first cap for Spain in their international friendly against Lithuania last week.

However, the report adds that Tottenham will face a battle in prising in any of the three players away from the Stadio Olympico.

If Pellegrini is a target, that could mean that the reports suggesting that Spurs could cash in on Dele Alli, might have some truth to them. It would not be a surprise to see us be more active in the Italian market this summer now that we seem to have Paratici on board.
