Report: ‘Forgotten’ Tottenham man may get chances after latest development

Estadio Deportivo have suggested that Sergio Reguilon may finally get some chances to impress at Atletico Madrid after the injury to Reinildo Mandava.

Reguilon has endured a season to forget, missing almost the entirety of the first half of the campaign due to a groin injury.

The Spaniard has failed to take the opportunities that came his way after he recovered, having made just five appearances across all competitions so far, and to make matters worse, the 26-year-old sustained a hamstring injury two weeks ago.

Estadio Deportivo now state that Reguilon’s latest injury is not particularly serious and the on-loan Tottenham man is expected to return to action by mid-March.

They add that the former Real Madrid man, who they describe as a ‘forgotten signing’, could finally get opportunities to stake his claim for a place in the starting eleven and impress Diego Simeone since Mandava is out for the rest of the season.

However, it is explained that Reguilon is certainly not guaranteed to get starts as he might have to battle Mario Hermoso and Yannick Carrasco for the left-back spot.

Spurs Web Opinion

Reguilon has had rotten luck with injuries since the start of 2022 and the Spaniard certainly deserves something to go his way.

Even if he does not convince Atletico to buy him permanently, a strong end to the season could tempt other La Liga clubs into taking a punt on the 26-year-old in the summer.
