Report: Former Arsenal man is on Tottenham’s shortlist for summer signing

90 min have now revealed that Emiliano Martinez is on Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Hugo Lloris in the summer.

Plenty of goalkeepers have been mooted as potential successors for Lloris at Spurs, with Football.London claiming two weeks ago that Giorgi Mamardashvili, David Raya, Mike Maignan and Robert Sanchez are the four names on the top of the club’s wishlist.

It was reported ahead of the January transfer window that Martinez, who won the Golden Glove at the World Cup in Qatar, was also on Spurs’ radar (GiveMeSport).

The Daily Mail revealed on 21 February that even though Villa are open to cashing in on the Argentina star, they want him to be one of the most expensive goalkeepers in history if he is to leave Villa Park.

If 90min’s latest update is to be believed, that has not put off Tottenham, who allegedly continue to have their eyes on Martinez ahead of the summer.

The publication adds that the former Arsenal goalkeeper would prefer to play Champions League football, meaning that Spurs might have to finish in the top four if they are to stand a chance of signing the Villa star.

Martinez is undoubtedly an excellent goalkeeper but Villa will likely demand in excess of £50m for the Argentine, which will not represent great value for money, given that the goalkeeper will be 31 in a few months.

The likes of Raya and Pickford (if he does not sign a new contract) will be considerably cheaper than the Villa star while also being long-term options.
